The Blueprint for Action on Women and HIV/AIDS in Canada is an international coalition of AIDS Service organizations, women’s organizations, reproductive rights organizations, advocacy coalitions, and individuals interested in promoting awareness of issues impacting women living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Blueprint engages in advocacy towards the different levels of government in Canada and has planned to use the upcoming International AIDS Conference (IAC) in Toronto in 2006 as a fulcrum to engage political leadership in responding to issues raised by the coalition. Blueprint has several working groups (committees) that meet by teleconference. Each of the committees are developing statements of need and workplans for the following areas:
- Communications
- International Conference
- Care, Treatment, Support and Diagnosis
- Legal Ethical Human Rights
- Research
- Stigma and Discrimination
- Prevention and Education
If you are interested in joining one of these groups, then please let our coordinator know and she will put you in touch with the group chair. Or, you can elect to simply stay informed by checking in with us using our Yahoo! Group “Blueprintforaction” updates. Individual and organizational members are encouraged. If you are a member of an organization or are on staff at an organization, we encourage you to seek official endorsement for participation in the coalition on behalf of your organization as well. This could be a decision from your Board, Executive Director or whatever decision-making processes are in place.
