Registered as a charity since 1988, the Canadian AIDS Society (CAS) is a national coalition of over 125 community-based AIDS organizations across Canada. We advocate on behalf of people and communities affected by HIV/AIDS, facilitate the development of programs, services and resources for our member groups, and provide a national framework for community-based participation in Canada’s response to AIDS.

Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network

The Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network is a national organization engaged in education, legal and ethical analysis, and policy development, with over 250 organizational and individual members from across Canada and around the world. Founded in 1992, the Legal Network promotes responses to HIV/AIDS that respect human rights; facilitate prevention efforts and access to care, treatment and support; minimize the adverse impact of HIV/AIDS on individuals and communities; and address the social and economic factors that increase vulnerability to HIV/AIDS and to human rights abuses. The Network accomplishs this through research, policy analysis, education, advocacy and community mobilization, undertaken in Canada and internationally. The Legal Network is also an NGO in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, and is a partner organization of the AIDS Law Project of South Africa (www.alp.org.za). Although the Network cannot provide legal advice or representation, it can facilitate access to accurate and up-to-date legal information through our publications, web site and capacity building activities.

Women’s Health in Women’s Hands Community Health Centre is a pro-choice, anti-racist, multilingual, participatory community health centre for women of diverse backgrounds in Metropolitan Toronto and surrounding municipalities.
Women’s Health in Women’s Hands is committed to providing community, mental and clinical health promotion support from an inclusive feminist, pro-choice, anti-racist, anti-oppression, and multilingual participatory framework. We work with immigrant and/or refugee women, women with disabilities, young women and older women in Toronto. Within these groups, the Centre prioritizes low-income Black women and women of colour.

As the world enters the third decade of the global HIV/AIDS pandemic, women – especially the young and the poor – are increasingly affected. Because gender inequity fuels HIV/AIDS and HIV/AIDS fuels gender inequity, it is imperative that women and girls speak out, set priorities for action, and lead the global response to the crisis.
ATHENA was created to realize this imperative. The Network builds upon the work of individuals and entities who have been committed to this challenge for years, and intends to use coordinated, collective action to advance their efforts further. ATHENA members are working actively towards the realization of the Barcelona Bill of Rights, a guiding document for the Network that was first promulgated at the 2002 International AIDS Conference.

The Global Campaign for Microbicides is a broad-based, international effort to build support among policymakers, opinion leaders, and the general public for increased investment into microbicides and other user-controlled prevention methods. Through advocacy, policy analysis, and social science research, the Campaign works to accelerate product development, facilitate widespread access and use, and protect the needs and interests of users, especially women.
The International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ICW)

The International Community of Women Living with HIV/AIDS (ICW), a registered UK charity, is the only international network run for and by HIV positive women. ICW was founded in response to the desperate lack of support, information and services available to women living with HIV worldwide and the need for these women to have influence and input on policy development. ICW was formed by a group of HIV positive women from many different countries attending the 8th International Conference on AIDS held in Amsterdam in July 1992.
