About Us
The Blueprint for Action on Women and HIV/AIDS is a multi-sector coalition of HIV-positive women, Canadian and international HIV/AIDS organizations, and a variety of women’s and reproductive rights groups advocating for better prevention, services and supports for women and girls infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
Guiding Principle: Empowerment and inclusion of women living with HIV/AIDS in all decision affecting their lives is essential. In order to ensure that the outcomes of this work and that all issues are relevant and representative of the realities of women living with, and affected by, HIV/AIDS, we believe that all aspects of work carried out by this coalition must be lead by women living with HIV/AIDS, for it is their experiences and realities that drive our work.
Mission: In preparation for the 2006 International AIDS Conference hosted in Toronto, Canada, when the response of the Canadian government to HIV/AIDS issues among all Canadian populations will be under global scrutiny: Blueprint for Action on Women and girls and HIV/AIDS, acting as a united voice on policy issues for women living with, and affected by HIV/AIDS in Canada will ensure that women’s issues will be equally represented at the 2006 International AIDS Conference in Toronto, and will seek to ensure that governments are held accountable for their response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic as it affects women globally and in Canada. To effectively address the diverse issues affecting women and HIV/AIDS, the Blueprint coalition focuses on the following areas:
- Law ethics, human rights
- Research
- Stigma and discrimination
- Diagnosis, treatment, care and support
- Prevention and education.
A coordinated, cross sector response is required to foster effective knowledge exchange, skills transfer and the sharing of best practices around HIV/AIDS and women. Partnerships of relevant stakeholders, including women’s organizations, reproductive rights groups, human rights organizations and HIV/AIDS organizations, are required in order to address the diverse and complex issues of women living with and affected by HIV/AIDS.
